BARDON QUEENSLANDER

BARDON QUEENSLANDER

The Bardon Heritage Revival | A Soulful Queenslander Transformation

The Challenge: Honoring the Past while Embracing Modern Family Life
There is a unique responsibility that comes with refreshing a classic Queenslander. For this Bardon residence, our mission was to accentuate the home’s iconic architectural character while introducing a contemporary flow that supports the rhythms of a busy, modern household. We wanted the result to feel curated and elegant, yet robust enough to handle the joyful realities of a home shared with family and well-loved pets.

The Heart of the Home: A Kitchen for Gathering

We reimagined the kitchen as a soft, inviting hub, moving away from stark whites in favor of bespoke cabinetry in a gentle blue-grey.

The Banquette Sanctuary: To maximize the casual dining space, we designed a custom banquette seating area. This creates an intimate nook for morning coffees or long family breakfasts, making the most of every square inch of the open-plan layout.

Natural Integrity: The space is anchored by natural stone benchtops, chosen for their timeless beauty and their ability to age gracefully alongside the home.

Artisanal Textures for Real Life

One of the most personal elements of this project was the selection of fabrics. We believe that a beautiful home must also be a functional one, especially in a house that is truly lived in.

Pet & Family Friendly: We curated a collection of artisanal linen fabrics for the custom upholstered furniture, cushions, and lampshades. These were specifically chosen for their durability and "life-friendly" qualities, proving that sophisticated patterns and hand-blocked textiles can coexist with the activity of a busy household and family pets.

Pattern Play: By layering different scales of patterns and a consistent tonal palette, we created a sense of visual harmony that flows effortlessly from room to room.

The Ensuite: A Study in Tactile Calm

The master ensuite was designed as a private retreat, focusing on raw, beautiful materials that promote a sense of wellbeing.

Venetian Artistry: We replaced traditional tiling with hand-applied Venetian plaster walls, providing a soft, luminous texture that shifts with the light.

Neutral Sophistication: A palette of warm neutrals, marble, and oak cabinetry—finished with elegant brass details—ensures the bathroom feels like a high-end sanctuary while remaining true to the home’s heritage roots.

A Seamless Concept to Completion

From the initial hand-drawn concepts to the final installation of every custom furniture piece, Porch Light Interiors managed this significant renovation with an intimate, hands-on approach. Every piece of furniture was custom-sized to perfectly fit the unique proportions of the Queenslander floor plan. The result is a Bardon residence that honors its history while offering a warm, practical, and deeply personal environment for its next chapter.
