The Challenge: Creating a Classic Home with a Soulful Family Heart

This new build in Kalinga was designed to celebrate its unique position overlooking a tranquil creekside yard. Our mission, working alongside a young family, was to ensure this classic-style residence felt established, warm, and deeply connected to its surroundings. Rather than a stark new construction, we focused on creating a home with "old-soul" charm—prioritising natural light, handcrafted details, and an easy, indoor-outdoor lifestyle.

A Collaborative Vision: Architecture and Interiors in Harmony

A defining feature of this project was the seamless synergy between the home's structure and its interior soul. We were thrilled to collaborate on the design of this home with the talented team at Big House Little House, working closely alongside both the building designer and the builder to ensure every architectural detail felt intentional and cohesive.

Handcrafted Timber Detail: Together, we integrated bespoke timber windows and doors throughout the home, creating a soft, organic frame for the creekside views and allowing the living areas to spill effortlessly onto the landscape.

The Grand Void: To create a sense of breath and light, we designed a striking architectural void above the dining table. This soaring, light-filled space acts as a sun-drenched heart for the home, making everyday family meals feel truly special.

The Kitchen: A Vibrant Culinary Hub

The kitchen was crafted as the home’s energetic centre, balancing classic materials with a sense of play.

Textural Richness: We paired rich wood cabinetry with natural stone countertops and vibrant, colourful tiles that add a sophisticated yet joyful touch.

Bespoke Functionality: Every inch of the custom cabinetry was designed with the rhythms of a young family in mind, ensuring a space that is as practical for a busy school morning as it is for weekend entertaining.

Whimsical Touches for a Young Family

Working with a young family allowed us to lean into more imaginative and personal design elements.

Playful Layers: We utilized carefully selected wallpapers and custom-built joinery throughout the home to add personality and warmth to every room. These details ensure the house feels like a cherished family estate from the moment you walk in.

Tranquil Retreats: While the social areas are vibrant and inviting, the bedrooms and bathrooms were designed as quiet, spa-like escapes, using soft natural textiles and stone finishes to promote a sense of daily wellbeing.
