Set amongst rolling acreage just beyond Brisbane, this home feels deeply connected to the landscape that surrounds it. Horses and a much-loved donkey wander the paddocks beyond the windows, dogs drift between indoors and out, and birdsong flows through the many doors left open to the fresh country air.
Life unfolds a little differently here.

When our clients approached Porch Light Interiors, they had already built a beautiful contemporary home. They wanted interiors that felt softer, richer and more personal. A home that reflected the beauty of its surroundings while embracing a slower, more connected way of living. Our role was to bring that feeling to life. Through custom cabinetry, carefully layered furnishings and a warm palette inspired by the landscape itself, the home became somewhere that feels calm from the moment you walk through the door. Contemporary in its simplicity, yet full of warmth, texture and character.




Layers That Tell a Story

The most memorable homes are built through layers rather than statements.
Across every room, natural stone, warm timber, leather, linen, velvet and softly aged metals were carefully brought together to create interiors that feel collected over time rather than completed all at once. Fabrics were sourced from a curated mix of textile houses and artisan suppliers, allowing subtle variation in colour, texture and pattern to give each space its own personality while remaining beautifully connected to the home as a whole.

Large-scale custom furnishings became an important part of the design, allowing each room to feel comfortably proportioned within the home's generous volumes. Oversized sofas, bespoke upholstery and carefully considered layouts create spaces that feel both expansive and deeply inviting.




Warmth as the Guiding Principle

Warmth became the guiding principle behind every decision. Not simply through colour, but through texture, craftsmanship and the way each space feels to spend time in. Every material was selected for the atmosphere it creates as much as its appearance, allowing the home to feel relaxed, deeply personal and effortlessly connected to the landscape beyond its walls.

Large-scale custom furnishings were thoughtfully designed to sit comfortably within the home's generous proportions, creating spaces that feel inviting rather than imposing. Leather, linen, velvet, timber and warm metallic finishes are layered throughout, while textiles from a carefully curated mix of artisan makers and fabric houses introduce subtle variations in colour, texture and pattern. Together, these layers create interiors that feel collected over time rather than completed all at once.
The result is a home that feels calm from the moment you arrive. A place where the boundaries between indoors and out gently dissolve, and where every room invites you to slow down, settle in and stay a little longer.




A Thoughtful Transformation

One of the most rewarding aspects of the project was reimagining the kitchen.
Rather than completely rebuilding the space, we worked with its existing footprint, transforming its character through materiality and detail. Cabinetry was redesigned in a warmer palette, benchtops were replaced with richly veined Taj Mahal quartzite in a beautifully organic leathered finish, and carefully considered detailing brought a new softness and cohesion to the heart of the home.

It is a reminder that thoughtful design isn't always about starting again. Sometimes it is about recognising the potential that already exists and elevating it with the right materials, craftsmanship and vision.




Crafted for Everyday Living

Throughout the home, custom cabinetry became an opportunity to introduce another layer of richness and individuality.

Rather than relying on furnishings alone, interest was created through craftsmanship. Curved detailing softens strong architectural lines, natural stone shelving adds weight and texture, integrated strip lighting creates atmosphere from morning through to evening, while finely detailed metalwork and wallpaper-lined display niches introduce a richness of materiality that gives each joinery piece depth, warmth and a distinctly handcrafted feel.




Bringing the Landscape Indoors

The landscape became the starting point for the interior palette. Warm timber tones, organic Taj Mahal stone, earthy colours and tactile natural materials create an effortless connection between indoors and out. As the sunlight moves through the homes expansive doors and windows, every surface responds differently, allowing the interiors to gently change throughout the day alongside the landscape beyond the windows. The result is a home that feels grounded in its surroundings.
