The Parkside Estate | An LA-Inspired Sanctuary for Multi-Generational Living
The Challenge: Infusing Soul and Scale into Modern Construction
New builds often struggle to balance expansive modern volumes with the warmth and "lived-in" character of a heritage estate. For this project, situated on a premier parkside allotment, our mission was to create a high-performance family home that prioritized natural light and architectural DNA, while providing sophisticated, separate living zones for a family of busy professionals and their adult children.
Architectural Character: The Spanish Mission Influence
To avoid the clinical feel often associated with new construction, we introduced structural elements that provide a sense of permanence and history. By framing the rear terrace with Spanish Mission-style arches and installing expansive black iron-style windows, we created a rhythmic, Mediterranean-inspired aesthetic. This architectural grounding ensures the home feels like an established estate rather than a contemporary build.
The Professional’s Kitchen: A Culinary Hub
Designed for a household with varying schedules, the kitchen was engineered as a high-traffic, high-beauty zone.
Texture & Tactility: We layered organic Bejmat tiles against acid-washed brass hardware and honed marble benchtops to create a sensory, artisanal feel.
The Invisible Engine: A seamless flow into a high-capacity butler’s pantry ensures the main kitchen remains a tranquil, clutter-free space—ideal for evening decompression after a demanding workday.
Solving the Multi-Generational Dynamic
A primary requirement for this project was creating a layout that offered both communal connection and absolute privacy for adult family members living under one roof.
Zoned Privacy: We utilised sheer linen curtains to create soft visual boundaries, allowing light to permeate the home while providing the acoustic and visual separation necessary for a multi-career household.
Indoor-Outdoor Fluidity: The living areas were designed to harness views of the lush parkland, with the "heart" of the home remaining the central kitchen while secondary living spaces offer tranquil retreats for solitude.
Materiality & Longevity
Every material was meticulously selected for its ability to patina beautifully over time. From the sculptural textured range hood to the natural stone surfaces, the palette avoids "trend-chasing" in favor of timeless, high-quality finishes. These choices ensure the home remains as functional and visually refined in a decade as it is today.
