TUDOR-STYLE RESIDENCE
The Tudor Revival | A Study in Character and Ingenuity
The Challenge: Honouring Architectural Roots while Modernising for Life
This charming Tudor residence offered an abundance of character, yet its heavy, dated palette and restrictive layout no longer supported the way our clients wanted to live. While they had initially considered relocating, the home’s irreplaceable architectural features drew them back. Our mission was to thoughtfully refresh the home—enhancing its inherent beauty while introducing a sense of timeless elegance and comfort for the years ahead.
Turning Limitations into Design Statements
One of the most significant challenges was a large load-bearing structural post positioned directly in the centre of the kitchen workspace.
Seamless Integration: Rather than viewing the post as a limitation, we integrated it into the heart of the design. Clad in warm timber and adorned with elegant wall sconces, it now sits comfortably alongside Carrara marble benchtops and bespoke cabinetry.
The Chef’s Kitchen: With a passion for cooking at the forefront of the brief, we reimagined the layout to allow for generous movement and ample storage, ensuring the space offers a sense of "quiet luxury" that is as practical as it is inspiring.
A Sustainable and Considered Palette
A key part of our approach centred on sustainable decision-making, choosing to work with the home's existing elements to create a more balanced environment.
Softening the Foundations: Rather than replacing the original dark slate flooring, we balanced its visual weight through a palette of warm whites with earthy undertones.
Material Layers: We introduced premium wool rugs to soften the acoustics and added washed brass hardware and timber accents to bridge the contrast between the cool stone floors and the home’s historic character.
Reimagined Heirlooms: Taking a bespoke approach to sustainability, we curated the clients’ collection of antique furniture, reupholstering these cherished heirloom pieces in high-quality textiles to breathe new life into their personal history.
The Dining Room: Celebrating Geometry and Glow
The formal dining room was designed as a refined space for entertaining, specifically highlighting the home’s dramatic proportions.
Whimsical Heights: To enhance the pitched ceilings, we introduced a vintage-inspired wallpaper and a tailored green stripe detail on the ceiling, drawing the eye upward to celebrate the unique Tudor geometry.
Heritage Light: The original yellow stained-glass bay window remains a focal point, casting a warm, ambient glow that enriches the layered material palette and adds a sense of lived-in magic to evening gatherings.
The Porch Light Touch: A Timeless Transformation
This project is a beautiful example of how a considered design approach can reimagine a space entirely. By overseen every detail—from the structural integration in the kitchen to the bespoke upholstery of antiques—we have delivered a home that honours its history while providing a highly functional, elegant environment for modern living. It is a space that now feels both deeply personal and perfectly suited to the family’s next chapter.
